The LJ designers, ignoring all the feedback they got that the proposed changes to the user profile page completely suck, made the changes live a few days ago.
The changes include reducing the size of the journal name, putting the stats up top, adding a link and counter for the "v-gifts" (apparently to promote them to generate new revenue), initially breaking custom html changes (which they've partially fixed) and generally making it look as bad as facebook.
They've insisted that there will be no "opt-out" and that they won't change it back. What they don't realize is that by reducing the amount of individuality possible in lj, they have reduced its value.
So, do you or don't you like the change? Or do you not care either way?

Everyone needs to chill the fuck out.
James, however, is a complete douche bag.
And, of course, you are also entitled to think that James is whatever you wish just like we're entitled to think you're a whiner without whom LJ would possibly benefit. If LJ has "decreased in value" for you, well, you know where the red x is, right?
Reposted because your stupidity got me too riled up to properly edit code.
o noes, they want to increase revenue? Tough fucking shit, it's a commercially run business, they can do whatever the fuck they want.
There is no loss of individuality here, there is nothing about the new layout that makes it Facebook-like - have you actually seen how FB is laid out?
I'm really sorry that this is such a big deal in your life, really I am :o(
I'm not asking you to care. I was asking for other's opinions. If you don't care, fine. If, however, you are going rag on me or anyone else for caring, then you are just being an elitist asshole and a hypocrite.
I don't see, however, how any of this makes me elitist. Who is this elite to which I belong, and what are we up to? And where is it hypocritical to rag on people for caring?
Or are your insults just totally disconnected from reality here? If you disagree with me, can I call you a pederast and a furry?
Grow-up.
As for growing up, I'm not the one who spat the dummy over changes to a web page, framing his whining about those changes as a "question" for others to answer, so as to have an excuse to post it here.
It looks clean, it's simple, it's easy to change things now, and who the hell spends more than 20 seconds looking at their own profile page.
The page itself looks amaturish.
I could get behind a profile change...many people have offered viable options for change that do what the LJ design team "says" they want.
But what I'm more pissed off about than the changes, or the fact that the design team ignored the beta testers, is their reactions now.
Which have been zero, except in the case of one of the designers who publically said on his LJ that basically we would get used to it, and that he was "lulled by the positive beta response."
There was no positive beta response.
The new profile page was NOT ready to go live and they pushed it anyway.
And yes, I hate it. Again I say it. I hate the new profile page, and LJ's customer service? Is going to cause them problems.
Also, visually impaired people have let them know that their page readers have serious issues with the new layout. That's a big problem that SHOULD have been addressed the second it was brought up.
*shrugs* I get alot of people don't care. But I do. I don't like my stats at the top of the page. It makes the communities I maintain much more difficult to do so. And if people don't care, they don't complain. That's their prerogative.
But I pay this service for options.
They asked for beta testers. They got them. They asked for opinions. The majority of the opinions were negative. They ignored helpful suggestions from people who make their livings doing web design. Then they have the gall to say that customer involvement is KEY to this whole pile of shit?
I don't like being lied to, I don't like being condescended to, and when a paying customer asks for an answer, the business better pony up.
